Handle shells - a trend under the radar
Handle shells are so special because, on the one hand, they manage to blend completely into an ambience without attracting attention. And on the other hand, they create a WOW effect: We expect a handle on a revolving door and a handle bar on a sliding door. A handle shell is not the first thing that comes to mind. The unexpected makes us look twice.
Handle shells are by no means a novelty: even in ancient Japan, traditional sliding doors made of wood and paper were opened with "hikite" - or handle shells. Although they were not made of stainless steel, but mostly of wood, they looked exactly like our CRICLE, BASSO or PLANEO SELECT models and were intended to be functional without stealing the show from the ornately painted fusuma doors.
Handle shells in modern homes, surgeries or offices fly so far under the design radar that when we pick up a handle shell, the thought automatically comes to mind: "How innovative!" "How elegant!" "How modern!" "How beautiful!": Understatement as a hidden eye-catcher automatically becomes a status symbol.
Handle shells in a matt stainless steel finish blend particularly unobtrusively into modern, harmonious and bright homes or workspaces. At the same time, they have a high-quality appearance. We would recommend them in a home with a natural living style, for example, as well as in a playful living style, as this places the accents on eye-catching furniture and walls.
Even if you don't think you have a really defined living style, matt stainless steel is a very good choice, as these handle shells exude modernity and quality, yet do not interfere with the individual character of the home. Matt stainless steel blends in seamlessly with matt or frosted sliding glass doors and is least noticeable on clear glass doors, which are intended to expand the room.
Which handle shell for which style?
In the Griffwerk range, you will find round and square handle shells, unobtrusive ones in matt stainless steel, handle shells in Griffwerk's own cashmere grey and graphite black colors as well as handle shells with more eye-catching copper or brass elements.
In terms of shape, angular handle shells, such as the R8-QUATTRO or R8-SQUARE model, are particularly suitable for modern offices or surgeries, as this shape emphasizes a more business-like character.
We recommend round handle shells for living spaces, as they support a warm, homely ambience. But what color? A Griffwerk example with tips:
Handle shells in graphite black are striking and therefore set accents. They go well with high-contrast interiors, such as industrial style, boho, minimalist style and Japanese wabi sabi.
Cashmere grey is the color of choice for those who like it very cozy. This color brings warmth into the home and emphasizes a flattering feel. It is slightly less conspicuous than graphite black, but is not as inconspicuous as matt stainless steel. Handle shells in cashmere grey are ideal for "homely" living styles such as country house style, coastal granny, hygge and Scandinavian living, but also for living styles that we associate with "warmth", such as Moroccan, Mediterranean and romantic living styles.
For some styles, it is important to have the right accents on each wall that also catch the eye. This is the case with French style, Art Deco, Moroccan style and ethnic style, for example. Here, depending on your preference, handle shells with copper or brass elements go particularly well, accompanying and emphasizing the other decorative elements that are quite striking in these styles. But they are also suitable for homes that cannot be assigned to any particular style. Our PLANEO handle shell in graphite black brass or graphite black copper, for example, is the secret star in any eclectic ensemble. It brings just the right accent to this "non-style" that rounds off the whole. Depending on the accessories, these colors also look good in country house or coastal granny kitchens.
How are grab rails fitted?
The handle shells from Griffwerk are very easy to install as they do not require drilling thanks to SENSA technology: The fitting is simply mounted on the glass door using gentle and secure clamping technology or adhesive technology. This saves time, money and work. This technology also allows you to individually adjust the height of the handles.
