Pretty safe: glass doors
We give you the 5 best tips
Tip 1: MORE LIGHT - more safety
Glass doors provide better lighting in rooms, which is a plus in terms of safety. Especially in rooms without windows, such as staircases to cellars or attics or in corridors, falls can occur due to poor visibility. Even the time it takes to find the light switch is perceived as unpleasant. By letting light in through glass doors, you can improve the lighting in such rooms and make it easier to find your way around. Stairways can be illuminated more evenly with glass doors. This also minimizes the risk of falling.
Tip 2: Toughened safety glass and laminated safety glass
Glass doors from Griffwerk are made of toughened safety glass (ESG) or laminated safety glass (VSG). ESG is a thermally toughened glass. To produce it, float glass is heated and then quickly cooled with cold air. As the surface cools faster than the core, tensile stress is created on the inside and compressive stress on the surface. ESG is therefore more resistant to bending, impact and shock than normal float glass and is also more resistant to temperature changes. The main difference between ESG and VSG is that, in the event of breakage, the shards of a VSG pane stick to an internal film, which minimizes the risk of injury. Most glass doors from Griffwerk are available either in toughened safety glass (TSG) or in the premium version made of high-quality laminated safety glass (LSG).
Toughened safety glass breaks down into small, blunt-edged glass crumbs under high loads, which significantly reduces the risk of injury. With conventional float glass, the fragments would form long, sword-like edges.
Tip 3: A good living feeling and better living health
For glass doors in living areas, toughened safety glass is the better choice and gives you a good feeling at home. In the event of breakage, the shards of a laminated safety glass pane stick to an internal film, which minimizes the risk of injury.
Daylight demonstrably and sustainably improves well-being and can lift your mood. The natural light that enters through an all-glass door, for example, is not only better for the human eye than artificial light, but also promotes a good night's sleep.
Tip 4: Clearly visible at eye level
Clear glass doors without decor could be overlooked and painful collisions may occur. We have also considered this. Because of the decors alone, Griffwerk's glass doors are easily noticeable. Glass doors that have been frosted on the back are even more visible. We offer this option for almost all decors. In public areas, by the way, it is even mandatory that transparent glass doors be marked at eye level. Separate regulations must also be observed for work areas.
Tip 5: Install safely
A word in advance: glass doors should always be installed or removed with expert assistance and at least two people should be involved. In addition, toughened safety glass doors should only be placed on soft, non-slip surfaces. Due to the stress conditions in the glass, toughened safety glass, which is much more resistant in itself, is somewhat more sensitive to impact loads on the edges. Special care must therefore be taken here. For the same reason, it is absolutely taboo to place doors on corners - even if only briefly. Incidentally, safety glass cannot be shortened at a later date but must be ordered in the correct size from the outset. Your specialist retailer will help you to determine the correct size.
